About the Apartment
SOLARIS Holiday Apartment
Since April 2024, the SOLARIS Holiday Apartment has been welcoming guests to Ostrava. Originally a two-room flat with a kitchenette in a 1930s apartment building that once housed miners’ families, the space has undergone a careful two-and-a- half-year restoration. We chose to strip away later additions and embrace a distinctly industrial design, paying tribute to Ostrava’s rich industrial heritage.
Bricks, wood, metal, and glass are the key materials shaping the interior. We aimed for highly functional use of space to offer maximum flexibility for guests. The smaller room draws inspiration from microapartments, combining three functional zones—kitchen, dining area, and a bed on a raised gallery. In contrast, the larger room feels spacious, centred around a king-size bed with a corrugated sheet canopy. One wall features a work nook and hooks reminiscent of a chain locker room, a subtle nod to Ostrava’s mining heritage. The bathroom is lined with pigmented trowelled concrete, while the flooring combines exposed brick with original wooden planks.
Designed by Tomáš Havlíček of the Létající inženýři architectural studio, this holiday apartment in Ostrava accommodates 1 to 4 guests and offers a unique take on Ostrava accommodation with an industrial spirit.
